¡Salud! A FILM ABOUT THE PRESSING HEALTH ISSUES THE WORLD FACES TODAY
To most Canadians our public health care system is a source of pride, and to our nieghbours south of the border, a source of envy and even suspicion. The challenges in maintaining these programs to Canadians is immense and growing yearly. But is accessible healthcare a right or a luxury? With health care costs spiraling ever upwards and the only solution offered by governments is privatization, what lessons can we learn from others? Who do we turn to? The U.S. or other G7 nations?
How about Cuba.
With over 28,000 healthcare professionals working in over 68 countries Cuba is becoming a caregiver to the world, despite 50 years of economic sanctions.
“The film’s cameras reach into The Gambia, rural South Africa, coastal villages of Honduras and river settlements in the Amazon, where a Cuban is often the first doctor a poor community has ever seen. In some nations they staff entire health systems. In all, they take with them the experience and philosophy of their own community-oriented, preventive and universal health care model fundamentally at odds with a global wave of healthcare privatization.”

A timely film that raises the bar on how we view health care and what is acceptable from those we elect to protect it.
